From Workout to Wellness:
My First Red Light Therapy and Infrared Sauna Sessions
Hi Everyone 👋🏻 – I’m Lauren and I’ve been a client of Perfect Fit Health & Fitness since it first opened in 2020. After building a weekly routine of attending PiYO/SOULFusion and Barre classes, and eventually stepping up my game with weekly personal training in 2022, I was excited to give the new Perfect Fit Health Services—red light therapy (RLT) and infrared sauna—a try.
Why I’m Sharing My Reflections
I am curious about Perfect Fit’s new infrared sauna and red light therapy health services and how they might enhance my usual fitness routine. Since others might be curious, too, I’m sharing my reflections with the Perfect Fit family in this blog series. Over the next few weeks, I’ll share my thoughts, experiences, and any noticeable changes.
Plus, for the past couple of weeks, I’ve had a slight lower back issue. It’s not debilitating, but a nuisance. I’m also intrigued by RLT’s potential skin benefits and the full-body relaxation of the sauna. Here’s how the first week went:
Monday: Red Light Therapy (15 minutes at noon)
Initial Impression
I lucked out with a special client promo code and tried RLT after Perfect Fit’s ribbon-cutting ceremony. Tricia helped adjust the setup—two light bars with one in front and one behind me, each placed about ten inches away. I chose to stand so my lower back and as much of my skin as possible would get plenty of exposure.
The Session
- Best practices say to fully expose the areas being treated, so I wore a sports bra and underwear so the light could reach the areas I wanted to treat. (The RLT room door locks, so no worries!)
- The warmth from the lights felt like gentle sunbathing—so soothing.
- I did a bit of stretching and deep breathing, but mostly relaxed, enjoying the hum of the light bars and mentally prepping for my afternoon meeting.
- Fifteen minutes flew by.
Post Session
I was not sweaty, but felt warm and “recharged.” My lower back felt noticeably better for the rest of the day—maybe part natural healing, part RLT, but I was happy either way. Notably, I didn’t experience my typical afternoon “sleepy slump” and was really glad to have a productive 4 pm meeting with high energy and mental clarity.
Tuesday: Personal Training (60 minutes) + Infrared Sauna (30 minutes)
Before the Sauna
My back stiffness was less of an issue during personal training compared to the week before. However, my left IT band felt tight, so I hoped the sauna might help loosen it up.
In the Sauna
- Tricia set me up with towels, showed me the shower and amenities, and explained the sauna’s chromotherapy feature, which cycles through various colors.
- The temperature reached 115°F, which felt cozy and comfortable—not as intense as traditional saunas.
- A few times I used the towel to dab sweat behind my knees
- I mostly laid down, squeezing in some gentle stretches.
- I connected my phone via Bluetooth and started listening to an episode of The Mel Robbins Podcast about women and building strength—perfect “me time.”
Post Session
Exiting the sauna, I felt pleasantly warm. Most of my sweating was from my earlier workout, not the sauna. At home, I ate a healthy breakfast, showered and hopped on the first of several Zoom calls. To my surprise, I got a few compliments on looking great on camera—in fact I was asked if I had a job interview! Once again, I escaped the mid-afternoon slump, and I slept incredibly well (always a plus after personal training, but this time it felt extra restorative).
Thursday: Red Light Therapy (15 minutes) + SOULFusion Class
Pre Workout Treatment
I’m already a fan of SOULFusion, so this day’s routine was an exciting opportunity to see how RLT would pair up with one of my favorite workouts.
RLT Round Two
- Same 15-minute setup, lights front and back at about ten inches away.
- This time I washed my face to remove my makeup beforehand to maximize skin exposure.
- The session went smoothly and flew by; this time I listened to podcast to blockout the sounds of the gym activity and just let the warmth envelop me.

RLT Session #2
SOULFusion Fun
- I attend the Thursday 6pm group fitness class regularly but this week was exciting—a new SoulFusion routine and my first class in the new bigger studio space.
- SOULFusion combines yoga-inspired flows, short cardio bursts, and strengthening moves all set to music—it’s really fun!
- Even with a new routine, I sailed through class with good energy. My back didn’t give me any trouble at all.
Post Session
I felt great the rest of the evening and the next day too. My skin feels good and looks good—no major changes to report good or bad.

Overall Thoughts at the End of Week One
- My lower back is definitely on the mend, and the RLT/sauna combo seems to be helping.
- My energy levels in the afternoons have been consistently better.
- The infrared sauna experience was blissful—soothing warmth without overwhelming heat or heavy sweating.
- It’s only been a week, so I’m not expecting dramatic transformations, but I feel more flexible, relaxed, and energized than I did last Friday.
Next Week’s Goal
I want to see if my back continues to improve, and I’m curious how more RLT sessions will impact my skin. Stay tuned for more of my infrared-and-RLT journey—I can’t wait to share how Week Two goes!
